Usually I deviate from talking about army topics on my blog entries because I already have the
army up my neck from Mondays to Fridays and I wouldn't want my blog to reminiscent that part of my miserable dog-life. However, I shall make an exception for this entry because I want let a particular victory of mine be made known. Haha.
My Encik was on leave for the whole week: I heard he went to visit his wife in Dubai or something. Anyway, the absence of this lampooner means a much quieter company line and a whole new stress level low. But certain work had to go on because of the tight schedule and OHSAS would be one of them. I shall not go into the nitty-gritty of what it actually is but just know that it is -a lot- of admin work.
Since my company don't usually receive A levels or diploma servicemen, it very well made me one of the so-called elite few with the capability to do administrative work. Initially I was quite okay with the idea until recently my feelings came up a little untrammeled. I mean, here I am doing all the admin sai-kang everyday while my other bunk mates get to sleep in the bunk, watch TV in the mess, play on their PSPs or puff away on cigarettes. They get to sleep late into the afternoons and basically camp life to them is very much likened to staying in a chalet.
Thinking through the mechanics of this whole situation, I realized I don't get as much rest as them nor as much fun as them just because I hold a higher education certificate! In other words, it just means that it sucks to be clever. Damn. I was quite peeved at this atrocity and I started punching on the buttons of my cellphone; cautiously formulating a SMS to the sergeant, on one hand making sure that I wasn't wailing in self-pity but at the same time letting my raw emotions about those 3 douche bags in my bunk be known. SMS sent.
The sergeant was quite kind and quick to understand my dire situation. He related to the Staff Sgt. everything I've said and the Staff Sgt. also took compassion.
My goodness, I think my stars are aligned to have such a wonderful thing happening. Well, here comes the crux which got me intoxicated.
The sergeant told me that he would be sending my bunk mates to the ATP site do some manual work and they would have to stay with the whole ATP team until their shoot was over which would be around 12am, pushing their book-out timing to a later time. When I learnt of this, I felt a surge of carnality taking over my usual self. I was very happy that my bunk mates finally got what they deserve: a taste of shit and I felt very much compensated.
Friday morning soon came and they had to fall in at 530am with the rest of the ATP people.
They left in a tonner shortly after that.
I was one of the few people left in camp. Ha-ha.. yes, slack time finally.
I watched a couple of DVDs in the mess and caught a few winks to make up for loss sleep.
At 12pm, I gingerly went to Staff Sergeant to ask for a half-day off; explaining to him that I didn't have much to do today because one of the main headers for OHSAS wasn't around. And guess what? He agreed.
I am a very lucky person indeed.
